Review:

Last month while scrolling Instagram I came across this book and instantly decided to give it a read. (EBook)Each and every poem is intriguing enough to not let you keep down this book until you finish. However the poems are 3-4 pages long. The beautiful illustrations help you connect with the soulful words.

The book takes you away from negativity and soothes your mind and soul. Written down in an easy yet enlightening way. One can resonate with the imagination of the poetess as we all yearn for some solace and are in quest to find the truth of universe in this materialistic world.

The book talks about the divine encounter, messages of universe, quest of every individual, nature’s musings, understanding the own self and much more.

As I have written above the book is categorized in four sections:

Divine Encounters : The first section is about authors imagination about the encounters with great Avatars like Lord Buddha, Shri Guru Nanak, Lord Krishna, Lord Jesus who bestow their enlightenment upon her.

Nature’s Musings: In this section through every element of Nature like sun, ocean, sky etc. the poetess emphasises on the importance of wonderful creations of God, admiring the surrounding beauty, cherishing every moment as nobody is immortal.

Revered To Touch: The third section is about understanding the eternal truths of life. In the poems author seems to give ode to breath, love and death. Some verses also portray the importance of sorrow because due to its presence, joy holds value.

The oneness: The last section talks about the merge of every spirit into the divine ocean of supreme power. The verses also explain about creator, devil, miracles in life etc..

Although all the verses are amazing but if ask me I would say I liked the last section of ‘The Oneness’. Through her words the poetess appeals us to dance to the rhythm of life, stop measuring the success with wealth and fame, feel the Supreme in every single breath you take, witness every miracle with wonder before it’s too late.

So, overall a thought provoking and insightful set of poems.

Celestial Descent by Kiran SandhuCelestial Descent by Kiran Sandhu

This book should be read by everyone once to comprehend their own self as it’s going to teach you a lot.

Concluding the review with some lines from the book:

“Human I made you, the most higher of all species
But you used my divine gifts to shatter and hammer to pieces
this heavenly earthen home and the lesser life forms you really own nothing
yet you call everything your own
your tremendous egos have created wars and famine bringing immense havoc to all creations mine.”

“We humans are nothing but waves on the ocean
Alive for a brief moment and then we must return
As you to the ocean, we to the eternal one
To the creator that gave us the gift divine.”

“What kept me going, I never did ponder
Worldly desires made me dive deep yonder
As if that was all I was here forMe, myself and all that was more
And today, as I lie on the bed
Gaping for air and my battered breath
I feel her go in and out
As if it in my ears my breath does shout.”

Book Review : The Corner Cradle by Supriya Shukla.

Book: The Corner Cradle.

Author: Supriya Shukla

Publisher: Notionpress

Pages: 112

Format: Paperback

Language: English

Genre: Fiction

About author:

The author is a Kolkata based writer, has a technical background and wrote many poems and short stories earlier in English and Hindi languages.

It’s a debut novel of the author Supriya Shukla.

Plot Summary:

The story talks about a main protagonist, Khushi who unfortunately is a witness of the murder of her mother and little brother. This incident creates a great impact on her mind. The traumatic experience leaves her feeling isolated in her own world but somehow she manages to make a habit of sitting in a corner comforting herself in her own virtual cradle.

The author has described the whole story in flashback.

Next, she moves on to a different place which helps reduce negative effect on her mind not completely, but to some extent. As her life embarks on a new journey there is still something awaiting for her. Basically, it’s a story about how one deals with a few things that remain incomplete in life.

Review:

We all have a comforting place in the corner of our heart: a virtual cradle and the title quite apts the story.

The book cover is attractive.

Book is divided into 8 chapters making it convenient to read. The author has brilliantly portrayed all the characters. One could feel the emotions of characters while reading.

The language is simple yet captivating enough to keep you bound at one place and read in one go. Usage of words is good. In certain parts, emotions are very well described through short poems.

The character I liked most is of Dhruv, her friend who was always there to listen, comfort and help her as a true friend. College life has also been described in such a way that one can relate to it.

The life of a transgender is also included in the story.

The author has successfully captured the essence of story: individuality and its acceptance.

What happens in Khushi’s life? Does she overcome all the odds in her life? To know, you can check out her book available on Amazon.

Overall, a good read. I recommend this book to all.
